Data from the U.S. Census Bureau revealed a slight increase in December's sales for eating and drinking places, reaching $94.6 billion on a seasonally adjusted basis.
Industry Cooks Up Job Growth
As 2023 came to a close, the restaurant industry marked a significant recovery, surpassing its pre-pandemic employment levels with 31,000 additional jobs. The industry witnessed a notable increase in December, adding 22,100 jobs, reaching a total of 12.4 million employees. Looking ahead, the hiring momentum in the restaurant sector is expected to continue, with 88% of restaurant operators planning to recruit more staff in the next 6 to 12 months.
